Fish & Wildlife are investigating the recent cases involving big cats seized and spotted in Bexar County-area neighborhoods this month. The big cats taken by authorities were not in good health, said Tim Morrow, president and CEO of the San Antonio Zoo. A San Antonio doctor is raising funds to provide daily lunches to the 150 volunteers at the Alamodome COVID vaccine site. SAN ANTONIO – It’s a first in the 106-year history of the San Antonio Zoo - the rhinos now have access to the entirely redesigned Savanna and can roam the giraffe yard. The zoo’s Savanna exhibit is home to giraffes, zebras, ostriches, rhinoceroses, and other African species. Thanks to a redesign effort that started in 2015, the animals are now free to roam between two previously-separated habitats thanks to the Savanna Crossing. The crossing is a connection point between the two Savanna habitats that has been in use for decades for vehicle access, zoo officials said. The two rhinos who call San Antonio Zoo home, Reyna and West, were given access through the crossing on Monday and were “just peeking” before having explored the entire area by Tuesday, officials said.

SAN ANTONIO – The San Antonio Zoo and SeaWorld are featured in a new conservation documentary called “Escape From Extinction” which is narrated by Academy Award Winner Helen Mirren. American Humane’s inaugural feature-length documentary shows the efforts being taken by accredited zoos and aquariums to preserve millions of species threatened with mass extinction, according to San Antonio Zoo officials. “San Antonio is home to two zoological institutions that are significantly contributing to the conservation of wildlife,” said SeaWorld San Antonio spokesperson Chuck Cureau.
