An area of Texas coastline tortured twice by Hurricane Harvey in 2017 is not taking any chances as Tropical Storm Beryl nears landfall.

When the storm arrives, Matagorda County is becoming a likely candidate for Beryl’s arrival.

SAN ANTONIO Officials with the American Red Cross Greater San Antonio chapter are preparing to assist if needed in the aftermath of tropical storms Marco and Laura along the coast. Watching the Tropics: Marco Struggles, Laura IntensifiesWe are ready with volunteers that would serve virtually and boots on the ground to ensure that the Red Cross is providing everyone the necessary services through their entire process from being evacuated to being sheltered, said Michael Vela, executive director of the American Red Cross Greater San Antonio chapter. Our Red Cross volunteers here locally are getting the necessary supplies ready in the case we need to deploy a non-congregate shelter with a hotel partner locally, Vela said. We are also prepared for congregate shelters, where we will make use of the CDC guidelines for social distancing. We are doing temp checks and providing (personal protective equipment).Vela said the Red Cross has also provided special training to staff and volunteers to ensure everyones safety.

Texas Hurricane Laura is approaching the coast and is expected to make landfall sometime around late Wednesday or very early Thursday. The National Hurricane Center is currently forecasting that the Category 1 hurricane will eventually strengthen into a Category 3 hurricane, making landfall anywhere from Galveston Bay to Vermilion Bay in Louisiana. Laura is the 12th-named storm of the 2020 Atlantic Hurricane Season and is not expected to bring much rain to San Antonio. However, the hurricane could bring widespread flooding to the coastal area and a mandatory evacuation has been issued for the city of Galveston. Texas Tropical Storm Hannah is approaching the Texas coast and expected to make landfall near the Corpus Christi area on Saturday. Hannah is the eighth-named storm of the 2020 Atlantic Hurricane Season. However, the tropical storm could bring more widespread flooding to the coastal area. The latest forecast track has Tropical Storm Cristobal -- the third named storm of what is expected to be an active hurricane season -- making landfall sometime Sunday afternoon or early evening. Track Tropical Storm Cristobal here >>>As for Cristobal's landfall location, several models say it will fall somewhere between Marsh Island and Slidell, Louisiana. Flooding will be the biggest concern for Gulf Coast states east of Texas. The Storm Prediction Center has a "marginal risk" for the coastal regions of Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama and northwestern Florida. “Tropical storms like Cristobal can still be prolific tornado producers, especially when making landfall on the Gulf Coast,” said CNN meteorologist Brandon Miller.
