The Tulsa Health Department does not publicly identify where potential virus transmissions occurred, so it's not clear how many people contracted COVID-19 at Trump’s rally. A spokesman for the Republican governor, who also attended Trump's rally without wearing a mask, acknowledged that members of Stitt's cabinet were briefed on Wendelboe's projections ahead of the rally. Stitt was the first U.S. governor to publicly acknowledge testing positive for COVID-19, although he has said he did not contract it at the Trump rally.

TULSA, Oklahoma President Donald Trumps campaign directed workers in Tulsa to remove thousands of social distancing stickers, prior to the rally last weekend, according to a new report from The Washington Post. Thousands attended Trumps first campaign rally at the BOK Center, which seats 19,000 guests. The social distancing stickers read, Do Not Sit Here, Please! and were intended to add distance between rallygoers, following the health guidelines currently in place nationwide amid the COVID-19 pandemic. The Washington Post reports that 12,000 stickers total were placed on nearly every other seat when Trumps campaign told management at the arena to stop using them and began removing them hours before the event. Trump campaign spokesman Tim Murtaugh emailed the Washington Post this statement and said the rally was in full compliance with health regulations.

He dismissed complaints that bringing together throngs for an indoor rally risked spreading the coronavirus as nothing more than politics. The Tulsa rally is trying to ignite some momentum in a campaign thats been going nowhere, Conant said. Campaign officials said that Trump would focus on what they call the great American comeback."

I think there's no question that indoor events are more risky than outdoor events. Lessler said large events like the rally or the protests have the potential to be super spreader events, but their potential to drive the pandemic is short-lived. Attendees will also undergo a temperature check, but there will be no required social distancing at the indoor event expected to be at capacity. Trump also plans an outdoor event, and officials are expecting about 100,000 people to converge on the city. California health officials have reported so far only a few people attending the demonstrations have tested positive for COVID-19, but contact tracing anyone they have infected is proving to be futile.

The states new standards are going out to schools as a national conversation on racial injustice brings new scrutiny to how African American history is taught nationwide. There is no national curriculum or set of standards for teaching black history in America. A University of Texas professor involved in developing the curriculum, Kevin Cokley, said his college students say they are taught a sanitized version of black history in high school. King provided training last year for 300 educators around the country who are interested in teaching black history. The push for diversity in education so far has led to mostly cosmetic changes, he said, without enough emphasis on the entry points and perspective of black history.

OKLAHOMA CITY – So many people have expressed an interest in attending President Donald Trump’s rally Saturday in Tulsa, Oklahoma, that the governor said he’s asked the campaign to consider a larger, outdoor venue to accommodate them. Kevin Stitt said Monday after talking with Trump and Vice President Mike Pence that nearly one million people have requested tickets to the event. Some Trump supporters have already started waiting in line outside the 19,000-seat BOK Center in downtown Tulsa. “We’re excited we’re being recognized as one of the first states to safely and measurably reopen,” Stitt told reporters Monday. Oklahoma County Republican Party Chairman David McLain said Monday that the Trump campaign intends to fill every one of the venue’s seats.

Trump had scheduled the rally for June 19, known as Juneteenth because it marks the end of slavery in the United States. He didn't see it as disrespectful to be able to do it on Juneteenth, Lankford said. Other people interpreted it differently and so he moved the rally date.Sen. Tim Scott, R-S.C., said he was thankful that Trump rescheduled the rally. But Trump's campaign was aware, according to two campaign officials, who spoke on condition of anonymity to disclose internal discussions. Although selecting June 19 was not meant to be incendiary, some pushback was expected, the Trump campaign officials said.
