The name "Wolf Moon" was given to January's full moon since this time of year is typically when wolves are active and can be heard howling on cold nights.

Jan. 17 is the Wolf Moon, it will appear full for roughly three days from Sunday evening through Wednesday morning, according to NASA.

The moon is also called the “Ice Moon,” as it’s known as the first full moon of winter.
