When it comes to internal specs, the Xbox series X is just a little more powerful than the PS5, but that difference is minimal when it comes to game play. Xbox just debuted its Xbox Game Pass and Sony’s Playstation Now has been active for some time. Both consoles are also backwards compatible, which gives Series X owners access to Xbox One games, and PS5 owners access to PS4 games. The Xbox series X comes out November 10.

The software giant said Monday that it is paying $7.5 billion for ZeniMax Media, the parent company of video game publisher Bethesda Softworks. Microsoft said it is buying Bethesda in part to beef up its Xbox Game Pass game subscription service, which it says has over 15 million subscribers. Bethesda games, such as Starfield, which is currently in development, will launch on Xbox Game Pass the same day they launch on Xbox or computers, Microsoft said. Microsoft has new consoles debuting on Nov. 10, the Xbox Series X and stripped down Series S version.

The roughly 7-year life cycle of a video game console has been nearing an end. Last week, Microsoft said its Xbox Series X will cost $500 and debut Nov. 10, just ahead of the holidays. A stripped down version, Xbox Series S, will cost $300 and be available at the same time.
