Converse Animal Shelter Inc. is caring for more than 120 dogs and cats. Rising costs of food and veterinary care are impacting the shelter's ability to provide for the animals, as it relies on donations to operate.

One very lucky dog is recovering at a shelter after a group of cavers said their excursion into a western Virginia cave over the weekend turned into a rescue mission when they found her.
