Dozens of migrants were found overheated and dehydrated in a train car Friday in Kinney County, Sheriff Brad Coe told KSAT 12 News.

The Kinney County Sheriff's Office has been busier than usual with an increase in human smuggling throughout the county.

Kinney County Sheriff Brad Coe said at a news conference Tuesday that following a wreck “a couple of days ago,” federal authorities wouldn’t take custody of four suspected undocumented immigrants until they had been checked out by a doctor. Coe said the four people weren’t hurt and had declined medical attention, and he didn’t want to take up “four or five hours” of his deputies’ time waiting for them to be examined.

A 15-year-old boy accused in a human smuggling operation out of Kinney County was shot on Monday and is recovering in a San Antonio hospital.

Kinney County Sheriff Brad Coe said because of limited hotel space in the Del Rio area, he decided to help some of troopers find temporary shelter.

Kinney County issued a declaration of disaster over the rise of migrants entering the country at the U.S. border.
