Luke Amphlett, a history teacher at Burbank High School with the San Antonio Independent School District, believes parents should get the option to choose online learning for their children. If its possible, and you are given the choice, dont come to school to learn, Amphlett said. The San Antonio Metropolitan Health District issued a health directive that extended virtual learning should continue until at least Sept. 7. Amphlett misses the interactions with students and teachers, but he said education should not come before health.

Robert Gomez, Athletic Director for Edgewood ISD, announced Monday that all summer strength, conditioning and skills camps at all district campuses were suspended until further notice. Edgewood is one of a handful of local districts or schools that have suspended summer workouts amid the pandemic. Burbank High School suspended their athletic program for a week, while Harlandale ISD and San Marcos CISD suspended summer strength and conditioning programs indefinitely. The UIL allowed workouts to begin on June 8 under certain guidelines.

With restrictions in place, the primary message has focused on the health and safety of all student-athletes and coaches. That is precisely the reason why Burbank athletes will not return to workouts for the forseeable future. Around 8:45 p.m. Monday evening, Burbank Footballs twitter account announced that strength and conditioning camp has been temporarily suspended until further notice. The tweet pointed athletes toward Google classroom for further updates and asked the general student body to stay safe. Burbank is believed to be the first school in San Antonio -- if not the state of Texas -- to shut down strength and conditioning workouts since all student-athletes were officially allowed back on campus on June 8.
