The cases involved an appeal of a Pennsylvania Supreme Court decision requiring election officials to receive and count mailed-in ballots that arrived up to three days after the election. Republicans had asked the U.S. Supreme Court to put that extension on hold ahead of the election.

San Marcos police say 21-year-old Demarques Milan Whitehurst was arrested in San Antonio this week. Police say Whitehurst was one of two people wanted in connection with a Nov. 17 armed home invasion and a Nov. 20 armed assault, robbery, and auto theft at The Grove apartment complex. Thanks to some help from the San Antonio police SWAT team, officers were able to catch up with Whitehurst at his apartment. In addition to guns and ammo, officers say they found stolen property taken last month.

The total number of cases now reported by the San Antonio Metropolitan Health District now stands at 94,781. Metro Health also reported that 769 patients are hospitalized, 258 are in the intensive care unit and 115 are on ventilators. In a sign of improvement, the positivity rate in Bexar County dropped from 15% to 12.5%, San Antonio Mayor Ron Nirenberg said. The 7-day rolling average of new daily COVID-19 cases in Bexar County is now 933 a day.

Two new deaths were reported today. The city’s total case count includes 70 backlogged cases. There were also 18 backlogged deaths reported, ranging from July 10 - November 15. City officials also reported that 576 patients are hospitalized, 204 are in the intensive care unit and 105 are on ventilators.

The Texas health department reported 763,010 total cases and 15,992 deaths due to COVID-19, the illness caused by the virus. The health department said Saturday in a note on its COVID-19 dashboard that the 3,660 older cases were excluded from previous reports of newly confirmed cases. The true number of cases in Texas is likely higher though because many people haven’t been tested and studies suggest people can be infected and not feel sick. For some, especially older adults and people with existing health problems, it can cause more severe illness, including pneumonia, and death.

In the overall case total, Metro Health officials have also included a backlog of 2,794 cases. Three new deaths were reported today and 53 additional deaths that were backlogged are included in the total, ranging from June 29 - September 10, 2020. Health officials said there are currently 221 patients are hospitalized. There are 16% of staffed beds available and 73% of ventilators available.
