Bexar County Judge Nelson Wolff issued an executive order on Tuesday in an effort to mitigate the spread of COVID-19 in Bexar County.

The U.S. Department of Justice is suing the state of Texas and Gov. Greg Abbott over the executive order the governor issued on Wednesday that allowed Department of Public Safety troopers to restrict lawful ground transportation of migrants.

SAN ANTONIO – President Donald Trump signed several executive orders on Saturday to provide individual relief from the pandemic, including a move to extend a moratorium on evictions for some residents. Both the city and county have programs to help struggling residents pay their rent or mortgage. The city expects to run through its $50 million budget of mostly federal dollars by late September, or early October. Mayor Ron Nirenberg issued an addendum to his latest declaration of public health emergency that adopts and supports Wolff’s order. Though individuals are also required to wear masks, they will not face any punishment if they don’t. Wolff’s order is in effect until June 30. Businesses have until Monday to post their health and safety policy, Bexar County District Attorney Joe Gonzales said. Then, Rogers said, the refugees are matched with nonprofits, many of them faith-based, that help them make the transition once they arrive. “The resettlement program is the best way you can possibly seek migration,” Rogers said. As a result, Rogers said many migrants who converged on the border last year had to apply for asylum because they couldn’t enter as refugees.
