Officers said the woman, who has not been identified, was found lying unresponsive in the middle of a northbound lane in the 27600 block of U.S. 281 North. A witness said they did not see the woman get hit by a vehicle, and another witness said he stopped his 18-wheeler to block traffic from hitting her. It is unclear where the woman was hit, as there was no road evidence, police said. It is also unclear what type of vehicle hit her.

SAN ANTONIO – Four vehicles were involved in a collision on Highway 281 South that sent at least one person to an area hospital late Sunday night. The crash happened around 11:40 p.m. in the 16200 block of Highway 281 South on the city’s South Side, not far from Guest Road. According to witnesses, a truck hit a black cow in the middle of the highway, causing a red sedan to roll over and two other vehicles to crash as well. Residents point to the 281 Country Club next door as the source of those bullets. The 20-acre property is advertised online as an outdoor recreational area for ATVs and bicycles, and it has a shooting range. Jorge Trevino is one of about 20 people who own 281 Country Club. In November 2020, deputies noted a complaint of automatic weapon gunshots to a man named Jorge, who said he owned the 281 Country Club. Trevino says the country club has been operating for about a year, and there’s a five-year plan to expand the business.

SAN ANTONIO – After being closed for six months due to the COVID-19 pandemic, a North Side Luby’s restaurant reopened Monday. The Luby’s on Highway 281 near Bitters closed in mid-March after San Antonio Mayor Ron Nirenberg ordered dining rooms in the city to close. While the orders allowed for take out and drive-thru services, the Luby’s location closed entirely. A company spokesperson said the restaurant is now staffed to open its dining area and is also offering to-go, catering and third-party delivery. SAN ANTONIO – A 26-year-old man was killed in an accident along Loop 1604 on the North Side Wednesday morning. San Antonio police responded to the wreck around 6 a.m. on the westbound lanes of Loop 1604 near Stone Oak Parkway before Highway 281. The driver lost control and crashed into the other vehicles, causing a chain reaction, police said. The westbound lanes of Loop 1604 were closed during the investigation, but have since reopened, according to the Texas Department of Transportation. SAN ANTONIO A motorcyclist is hospitalized after being hit by a vehicle head-on overnight, San Antonio police said. The incident occurred around 11 p.m. near Del Lago Parkway and Highway 281 south on the citys South Side. Thats when, police say, right before entering the parking lot the driver changed their mind, and hit the motorcycle head-on. Police said the motorcyclist had a helmet on, but broke his arms and had several other injuries. The driver of the vehicle was not injured, but is now being evaluated for DWI, police said.

SAN ANTONIO Two new flyover ramps at Highway 281 and Loop 1604 will open this weekend as part of Texas Department of Transportations expansion project. The opening of the new flyover ramps marks a major milestone of the US-281 expansion project, said TxDOT District Engineer Mario Jorge. The expansion project was meant to reduce congestion along an eight-mile stretch of Highway 281 between Loop 1604 and Borgfeld Drive. The expansion project will bring much-needed relief to the 91,000 drivers that travel on the corridor each day, said Jorge. Once complete, this project will reduce motorist delays by 660,000 hours every year.The first segment of the expansion project, which began in 2017, is scheduled for completion in 2021.

That HOV lane will be extended by 2023 from north of Stone Oak Parkway to Borgfeld Road, the release states. The stretch of HOV lane on I-10 W will be five miles, phase one of the Highway 281 HOV lanes will be three miles and phase two on Highway 281 will be six miles. HOV lanes are designated lanes along a highway that are reserved for the following vehicles:Vehicles carrying 2 or more peopleBusesMotorcyclesVIA and marked vehiclesTrailer towing is prohibited in HOV lanes. The opening of HOV lanes is a culmination of several years of community engagement, planning and construction, said TxDOT San Antonio district engineer Mario Jorge. SAN ANTONIO – A San Antonio woman is warning others after she says a man tried to abduct her at Target off TPC Parkway and Highway 281 in Stone Oak. Maria Rios said the alleged abduction attempt took place at 1:40 p.m. on Tuesday, according to a police report she filed with the San Antonio Police Department. SAN ANTONIO – Area firefighters battled a massive trailer fire in South Bexar County overnight, the Bexar County Sheriff's office said. The fire was called in just before 2 a.m. at a home in the 350 block of Hallmark Path, not far from Highway 281 and Pleasanton Road and just south of Loop 1604. Emergency responders said they arrived to find the trailer fully-involved. The Bexar County Fire Department said they were cautious with the fire because part of the structure collapsed.
