It’s called the midnight grind, and the Lanier High School football team loves it.

A retired professional basketball player, an NFL alum, a legendary pioneer in professional baseball, a WNBA difference maker, and a historic city championship football team are the five honorees to be inducted into the San Antonio ISD Athletic Hall of Fame.

Lanier High School is investigating a report of an inappropriate relationship between a student and a staff member, Principal Dr. Rick Flores said in a letter on Monday.

A new incentive program will increase pay for teachers facing some of the greatest challenges in helping students catch up from the pandemic. It relies on more than standardized test scores to measure performance.

SAN ANTONIO – Sydney Lanier High School is getting more attention from higher education systems including the Alamo Colleges District and UTSA to create a stronger future for students. For the past two years, high schoolers like Hector Martínez have been earning credits towards an associates degree as part of the Construction Science P-Tech Program. “I came to school for this program,” Martínez said. AdThe purpose of the program is to help fill the gap in the workforce, according to Donlee Wilson. “Our program focuses on building the next construction science management professional who will be leading a group or a team at a construction project or construction site.”Students interested in the program can still register.

SAN ANTONIO The San Antonio Independent School District announced they plan to bring back a small group of students, as school safety indicators show a moderate risk with the COVID-19 pandemic. Janell Rubio has two students who attend Lanier High School, but they began the school year virtually because of COVID-19. The district said these are students who require special education, are academically at risk, or are younger learners. We should be looking at how seriously campuses and school districts are prepared to bring students back safely, he said.

The Somerset Bulldogs and Lanier Voks both took to the practice fields on Monday morning for the first time since the UIL suspended all athletic activities due to the coronavirus pandemic.

SAN ANTONIO – A torch left on the roof of Lanier High School led to a fire Tuesday night. San Antonio firefighters responded to the high school, located at 1514 W. César E Chávez Blvd., around 9:30 p.m. after the torch left by a construction crew left an object smoldering, according to an official at the scene. Crews were able to extinguish the fire, but there were concerns about water damage inside the building. The damage is estimated to be a few thousand dollars.
