San Antonio’s Weathered Souls Brewing Company is expanding to the East Coast.

SAN ANTONIO – Two San Antonio breweries have resolved their dispute following social media backlash that stemmed from questions being asked on where proceeds from a social justice initiative were sent earlier this month. “Back Unturned Brewing Co. and Weathered Souls have been communicating directly with each other to resolve the situation at hand. We had a great meeting yesterday (Thursday) at Weathered Souls to make amends and move forward,” the brewery said on social media. AdThe Black is Beautiful Campaign was launched last summer by Marcus Baskerville, the co-founder and head brewer of the Weathered Souls Brewing Company. That prompted a heavy social media response with many publicly calling for the brewery to share its proceed plans.

SAN ANTONIO – A San Antonio brewery received backlash on social media after the owner of Back Unturned Brewing Co. was accused of not disclosing where proceeds from a social justice initiative were sent. Last Summer, Marcus Baskerville, the co-founder and head brewer of another San Antonio-based beer maker, Weathered Souls Brewing Company, started the Black is Beautiful Campaign. Baskerville and Weathered Souls asked participating breweries to donate 100% of the proceeds to local organizations that support police brutality reform and equality and inclusion. The donation pledge for Black is Beautiful is posted online, but it does not require a legal contract to participate. On Thursday, Baskerville posted a text message exchange on his personal Facebook between he and Ricardo Garcia, the owner of Back Unturned.

SAN ANTONIO – San Antonio’s Weathered Souls Brewing Company was recently named the best brewery in the United States in 2020 by the online magazine Hop Culture. The magazine covers the best beer, bars, breweries, gifts, and supplies in the U.S. and around the world. Hop Culture looked at more than 8,000 potential candidates and choose to highlight 12 with Weathered Souls earning top honors. Weathered Souls, located in the 600 block of Embassy Oaks on the North Side, received high marks for its craft brews, recipes and use of fruits to flavor some of its craft beers. Hop Culture writer Kenny Gould wrote that Weathered Souls’ resiliency, courage and leadership were all key factors in naming the brewery the best of 2020.

SAN ANTONIO After a successful launch of its Black is Beautiful craft beer campaign, San Antonios Weathered Souls Brewing Company donated a $20,000 check on Friday to the local chapter of 100 Black Men of America. The San Antonio nonprofit organization was chartered in July 1999, and its goal is to provide services to disadvantaged, disenfranchised and low-income youth and families. Weathered Souls co-founder and owner Marcus Baskerville started the campaign in June after George Floyds killing and the protests that ensued around the world and in San Antonio. Close to 1,000 breweries from 50 states and 22 countries signed on to brew Black is Beautiful and spread Baskervilles message. The feedback from across the country and San Antonio community has been overwhelmingly positive.

He's one in a very small group of black owners in the brewery industry so he came up with the Black is Beautiful campaign. The feedback from the San Antonio community has been overwhelmingly positive. I think San Antonio has actually been really great as far as the acceptance of people of color dealing with certain backgrounds and certain professional positions, said Baskerville. Weathered Souls Brewery, which is located on the near North Side on Embassy Oaks, will begin selling Black is Beautiful in July.

SAN ANTONIO – A San Antonio brewery is making waves to raise awareness on racial inequality and police brutality. Weathered Souls Brewing Co. has shared its base imperial stout recipe as part of their campaign, “Black is Beautiful". The campaign consists of a collaboration beer that encourages craft breweries to put their own spin to it. “Stouts range from any color of deep, dark brown to the (darkest) black,” Baskerville said. Baskerville hopes the San Antonio community will support his efforts to raise awareness.

SAN ANTONIO – Don’t be frightened by the name, there is life brimming at Weathered Souls Brewing Company on the near North Side. The brewing company just celebrated its two-year anniversary last November, but its rich flavors and craft beer combinations have already made a statement in the San Antonio area. Holt said he immediately saw something in Baskerville that set him apart from others in the craft beer business. “San Antonio likes to take its time and do it right, the craft beer scene is growing,” Holt said. It’s clicked enough to make Weathered Souls a well-known name, and a destination for flavorful craft beer.
