AAA Texas expects millions to travel this Memorial Day Weekend.

An early-season heat wave is underway for the San Antonio metro area and the Texas Hill Country. Over the weekend, temperatures will be near 100 degrees, some 10 to 15 degrees above average for this time of year.

Memorial Day weekend can be one of the toughest times of the year for veterans and families who have lost a loved one during combat.

The city of New Braunfels is preparing for an uptick of visitors taking to the Comal and Guadalupe rivers as the Memorial Day weekend approaches.

NEW BRAUNFELS, Texas – The Comal River in New Braunfels has reopened for recreation following Memorial Day Weekend storms that blew minor debris into the river, according to the New Braunfels Police Department. From Florida to Indiana and across the country to California, Americans were out enjoying the weekend as states loosened coronavirus restrictions. The event had already been heavily promoted on social media and large crowds still descended on the city bringing chaos in their wake. Aerial videos of the large crowd show people tightly packed together with no social distancing practices apparent. In Texas, four parks in Travis County closed after reaching capacity, according to CNN affiliate KEYE. In Playa Del Rey, California, the beach wasn't packed but cyclists made good use of the path with masks to boot.
