An arrest affidavit said police identified Martinez as the man who was racing with another motorcyclist on SW Loop 410 near Palo Alto Road Monday night before they both lost control and crashed. The affidavit said police identified Martinez after he sent a photo to a friend which offered some clues. Police said after he ran from the scene, Martinez went to a hospital for treatment of his own injuries. The affidavit said he sent a selfie showing his injuries to the friend, who then showed the picture to police.

When officers arrived, they found Tyler Muennink, of New Braunfels, dead from his injuries following the crash, police said. Officials say Muennink was not wearing a helmet, lost control of his motorcycle and laid the bike down, causing him to be hit by two oncoming vehicles. Police shut down the northbound lanes of I-35 to investigate for about four hours.

Police said the unidentified man was detained on suspicion of driving while intoxicated. No other vehicles were involved in the crash.
