One week after the Netflix series, based on the Selena Quintanilla-Perez family story, premiered, itās held the number one spot in over 150 countries. āGrowing up in San Antonio, Iād read in the paper, San Antonio Express News or The San Antonio Light even, that she had a concert in Rosedale Park and there she was accepting an award at the Tejano Music Awards at the convention center in San Antonio,ā Chavira described his memories of Selenaās early fame. As many learned in the movie, and now in the Netflix series, Selena and her siblings grew up with English as their first language, something Chavira can relate to. The University of the Incarnate Word graduate is living in San Antonio and started taking guitar lessons here in San Antonio as he prepared for his new role as the patriarch of the Quintanilla family.

Netflix and the university will host a virtual panel on Tuesday at 11:30 a.m with actor and San Antonio native Ricardo Chavira, and series executive producer Jaime DĆ”vila. Sonya AlemĆ”n, associate professor of Mexican American Studies at UTSA, will be part of the panel as well. AlemĆ”n launched a course this year on Selena Quintanilla-Perez in the Mexican American Studies Program at UTSA. The new Selena series will premiere on Dec. 4 on Netflix.

The highly anticipated series is a look at Selenaās life and rise to stardom. Last November, we got a first look at the cast when a teaser trailer was released.
