SAN ANTONIO After a successful launch of its Black is Beautiful craft beer campaign, San Antonios Weathered Souls Brewing Company donated a $20,000 check on Friday to the local chapter of 100 Black Men of America. The San Antonio nonprofit organization was chartered in July 1999, and its goal is to provide services to disadvantaged, disenfranchised and low-income youth and families. Weathered Souls co-founder and owner Marcus Baskerville started the campaign in June after George Floyds killing and the protests that ensued around the world and in San Antonio. Close to 1,000 breweries from 50 states and 22 countries signed on to brew Black is Beautiful and spread Baskervilles message. The feedback from across the country and San Antonio community has been overwhelmingly positive.

I think San Antonio has actually been really great as far as the acceptance of people of color dealing with certain backgrounds and certain professional positions, said Baskerville. Weathered Souls Brewery, which is located on the near North Side on Embassy Oaks, will begin selling Black is Beautiful in July.

SAN ANTONIO Amid the destruction and damage caused by a group of people Saturday night in downtown San Antonio, SAPD Chief William McManus shared high praise for his officers who kept the situation from escalating. We didnt have one single report or complaint of excessive force last night, McManus said Sunday. But the police chief said he was proud of the way his officers responded and did not allow tensions to completely boil over. They were restrained, they were professional in the face of insults, being hit with water bottles, glass bottles and rocks, said McManus. Well go back to work like we always have and try to make up the ground that we lost after the Floyd murder in Minneapolis, said McManus.
