School officials say the team’s school bus was broken into and all of their belongings were stolen just before their regional meet on Thursday. The swimmers took a break from the pool for lunch, and their school bus was locked in the parking lot of the restaurant, the school district said. AdHowever, when they returned, they found one of the bus’ windows had been smashed and all of their belongings had been taken, according to Comal ISD. That is certainly a positive sign as the calendar moves closer and closer to the U.S. Olympic Trials in June. The 2020 U.S. Olympic Trials will be held in Omaha Nebraska from June 21-28.

All 200 athletes were tested for COVID-19 prior to arriving in San Antonio and were tested again, locally, by Community Labs. Both genders will be combined for the finals session, and athletes who do not qualify will not be allowed in the building. Friday, Saturday and Sunday will each feature two prelim sessions starting at 9 a.m. and one finals session at 7 p.m. Each session will be live-streamed on usaswimming.org.

Cox ran away from the field and posted a 2:27.55, the fastest time in the country by a full second. “It definitely felt like a morning swim," Cox said. It was a really great race there, and I was just happy to be in there with them and compete. Although their times were officially recorded as exhibition swims, the experience each garnered will prove invaluable for this season and beyond.

Widening the scope to include young people under the age of 20, drowning remains a major threat, ranking as the third leading cause of death among that age group. Nearly 1,000 young people succumbed to drowning in 2017, according to a policy statement published by the American Academy of Pediatrics. Although drownings have long been a leading cause of death, childhood drowning rates have been more than halved in the last three decades. Most young children who drown in pools had only been left unsupervised for minutes or less, according to a CPSC study.
