A storm surge of 15 feet destroyed nearly everything in the town, while a fire resulted in additional damage. The hurricane killed 46 people in Indianola (the storm in 1875 killed nearly 400). Indianola was never rebuilt, allowing Galveston to become Texass main port.

The study highlighted a slew of looming problems for the stateās water supply. This problem will be particularly pronounced for Dallas, which relies entirely on surface water for its water supply, the study says. āAnd if there is a shortage, then the very next step is they have to determine how they are going to meet their water supply needs for that growing population,ā she said. So the state is well-prepared and is looking at future populations and water supply needs for municipalities.āBut the warnings are alarming to water conservation advocates and ranchers alike.

Miguel Gutierrez Jr./The Texas TribuneMedical professionals from the U.S. Navy were deployed Sunday to aid hospitals in four cities across southern Texas and the Rio Grande Valley, according to Gov. Early on in the pandemic, hot spots were mainly tied to outbreaks in enclosed spaces, like meatpacking plants and nursing homes. Five U.S. Navy teams were sent to four locations across Texass southern region: Harlingen, Del Rio, Eagle Pass, and Rio Grande City. Ambulance operators in the Rio Grande Valley area described wait times of up to 10 hours to deliver patients to packed emergency rooms.

Thats a reasonable description of foster care in Texas in 2020. Its in a report completed last week a description of a system run by state government right now. The report is full of the stories of foster children the state has failed. A 6-year-old in foster care when this lawsuit was filed is now 17 or 18 years old.

Abbott said the U.S. military would not come into Texas and state law enforcement would handle any situation that arises. The state is also working with local law enforcement leaders to maintain order and uphold public safety for protesters. Abbott stated that some of the violence is being done by people who have crossed state lines and are not Texas residents. State officials will work with national law enforcement agencies to federally prosecute those individuals.
