SAN ANTONIO – Trinity University dining hall staffers chose to stay overnight and continue to feed students on campus as a historic winter storm swept the area. Tess Coody-Anders, Trinity’s vice president for strategic communications and marketing, said 14 Aramark dining services team members volunteered to stay on campus. “For their own safety, but also because despite our campus being shut down, we have residents who live on campus and depend on Mabee dining hall for dining services,” Coody-Anders said. According to Coody-Anders, about half of the 14 crew members stayed overnight on Sunday in available on-campus dorms while the other half decided to set up camp in Mabee Dining Hall. “And we really could not appreciate their going the extra mile more.”To ensure COVID-19 saftey protocols for dining students and overnight staffers, Coody-Anders said officials had created “different rooms and partitions” within the dining hall to create safer dining spaces.

St. Mary’s University issued the following statement:“In May, St. Mary’s University anticipated a 10% decline in enrollment in accordance with national enrollment predictions. Graduate enrollment increased 20.3% and Law enrollment increased 1.9% compared to Fall 2019.”

SAN ANTONIO – The COVID-19 pandemic has created chaos for school students of all ages, including those applying to college. Since SAT and ACT testing centers are closed or have altered in size and scope for COVID-19 regulations, colleges are making big changes. Many colleges across the nation have waived test score requirements as part of their application process. “We started seeing students having challenges getting into testing locations, (so) we made the decision to waive the test score requirement for the remainder of last year’s cycle. Colleges across the nation are discussing whether standardized test scores should be included in the admissions process.

SAN ANTONIO – What began last spring by focusing on the U.S. Census has transitioned to preparing Trinity University students to vote in the November presidential election. The Census-Voter Engagement Task Force was created by students and faculty to encourage participation in both. “I’m very passionate about politics and getting people to vote,” Yancelson said. Yancelson also said he was motivated by the fact that so many Trinity students are taking online courses. He said the task force would be a centralized effort that could reach them.

Do you know what a CLEAR Alert is? Published: February 26, 2020, 6:47 pmWhen 19-year-old Trinity University student Cayley Mondadi was killed, her mother said there was an enormous gap in the emergency alert system. Cayley wasn't under 18, so an Amber Alert was not an option.

Through her grief and determination, Mandadi’s mother, Alison Steele, fought to get a bill passed by the state legislature, creating what’s called a CLEAR Alert. Steele said right now, Texas is the only state that has the CLEAR Alert, but other states are trying to follow suit.

Addressing the jury, Judge Angelini said: “With this note ladies and gentlemen of the jury, I’m declaring a mistrial, the case for this time being over.”The jury spent 9 hours reviewing over 22 hours of testimony in the trial, which began early last week. They deliberated for 2 hours Wednesday and another 7 hours on Thursday. According to testimony during the trial, the couple had been dating but Mandadi was planning to end the relationship. “We are obviously very disappointed with the mistrial, but we intend to retry this case and bring justice to Cayley Mandadi," said Joe Gonzales, Bexar County district attorney. A mistrial has been declared in the murder trial of Mark Howerton.
