Neighbors in the Floresville area are continuing their battle with the private company that owns their water wells.

Last week, KSAT went to the Arrowhead subdivision, where the water was brown or highly chlorinated. In October, it even tested positive for E. coli. After that story aired, messages flowed in from people in the Shady Oaks community.

So how was a small electric company that is fed energy from CPS in San Antonio able to stay on? “Our customers so far have been doing what they need to be doing,” Low said. “Our guys are sitting here looking at where the load is and we’re moving stuff around to keep us from having outages,” Low said. As of publishing, just under 7,000 customers in San Antonio were still without power, it was previously more than 300,000 customers.

It appears the NYS Food Mart is among the luckier stores in San Antonio, too: the store sold 17 winning scratch-off tickets total last year.

SAN ANTONIO – Texas Department of Public Safety troopers investigating a deadly crash on Highway 87 in Wilson County say it appears thick fog played a role in it. A 17-year-old girl was killed in the crash which happened shortly after 7 a.m. Friday. ADKINS, Texas – A 17-year-old girl pulling her truck out of the driveway was hit and killed by an oncoming car early Friday morning, the Texas Department of Public Safety said. The crash happened shortly before 7 a.m. in the eastbound lanes of US Highway 87 near Oak Park Road. According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, the teen was trying to turn left onto eastbound Hwy 87 and was heading to La Vernia High School when she was hit by the westbound car. The eastbound lanes of Highway 87 were closed as emergency crews worked at the scene. The westbound lanes, however, remained open.

Three years ago, the nation wasn’t focused on the next race for the White House. And possibly no one could have understood that a global health crisis would have killed more than 230,000 Americans, including more than 18,300 Texans. On Nov. 5, 2017, the nation was gripped by an unspeakable tragedy at the First Baptist Church of Sutherland Springs. There, 26 people were killed and 20 others were injured when a gunman opened fire during a Sunday service at the church, located in the city just southeast of Bexar County. Eighteen months after the tragedy, a new First Baptist Church building opened to members of the community.

LA VERNIA – La Vernia ISD sits off U.S. Highway 87, east of San Antonio, in Wilson County. Both La Vernia ISD or the La Vernia police refused to comment on the allegations. La Vernia ISD opened to in-person learning on the first day of school with roughly 75 percent of the enrolled students face to face. Integrity, transparency and communication are the foundations to be successful at La Vernia, Cone said. “La Vernia is a great place they have great kids a great staff and community, and good things are happening," he said.

Floresville, Texas – For most of us we can drive up to a Starbucks at any time, but in Wilson County that wasn’t an option until now. The Floresville City Manager has announced that a Starbucks is being developed. In an announcement on Facebook, city manager Henrietta Turner said that the project will create local jobs and support economic development. “This is one of the many projects that are in the works, as we continue the partnership with the City of Floresville," Economic Development Executive Director Benjamin T. Reed said. “With the addition of Starbucks to the area, this allows us to better compete with a different type of retailer.”The Starbucks will be located off Highway 181.

FLORESVILLE, Texas – A Floresville social worker is being remembered for her passion for helping nursing home residents after dying from COVID-19 complications. Peeler had been a social worker for more than 25 years, and she spent most of that time caring for residents at different nursing homes. Felan hopes to carry on her mother’s legacy as a social worker. “I wish I could be half the social worker that she was, and I strive to do that. Felan said she chooses to remember her mother as a woman who dedicated her life to others.

After a survey, The National Weather Service in New Braunfels has determined that damage in Wilson County was the result of a tornado. According to the National Weather Service, the tornado touched down along Highway 87 around 5:10 Sunday morning, 2 miles northwest of Sutherland Springs. Wilson County, Texas Three women, including a board member of the Floresville Independent School District, have been released on bond following their arrests Wednesday on charges related to the theft of a donkey from a pasture in rural Wilson County. Alena Berlanga, Nickol Sullivan-Santos and Pamela Johnson all face charges of theft $100-$750 and criminal trespassing, Wilson County Sheriffs officials confirmed this week. The donkey was taken to a ranch in Wilson County but the foal had not survived the birth, the investigator said. Ms. Berlanga is a certified animal control officer as well as the President and Founder of the Wilson County No Kill Animal Shelter. An official with the Wilson County District Clerks Office confirmed the lawsuit was dismissed in February.

For one day only, the site will be open on May 3 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Floresville High School. The site will test those who are experiencing COVID-19 symptoms. FLORESVILLE, Texas – A positive case of COVID-19 has been confirmed at the Frank M. WILSON COUNTY, Texas – A 35-year-old man shot and killed his wife after smoking meth in a truck before the couple was supposed to be headed to a store, the Wilson County Sheriff’s Office said. The sheriff’s office said the couple’s children were in the yard during the time of the shooting. Anthony Davis told authorities he and his wife were smoking meth in their truck before heading out to the store. They followed him back to the house, where EMS personnel administered CPR after finding Davis’ wife lying in the yard. He was booked into the Wilson County Jail.

FLORESVILLE, Texas – The daughter of a Floresville councilman who was killed last week in a two-vehicle accident in Wilson County will fill her father’s seat. Jade Jimenez will take over the Place 4 seat for Gerard Jimenez. Councilwoman Marissa Ximenez said the appointment was made after a unanimous vote. FLORESVILLE, Texas – A recent increase in car break-ins has Floresville police concerned. “To me, it was shocking because it doesn’t happen in this community,” said Detective George Ortiz, with the Floresville Police Department. Ortiz said crooks broke into 17 cars on Dec. 11 at the Northcrest Hills subdivision. “You’re giving a criminal an opportunity to take your belongings," Ortiz said. Clicker and his wife had left their cars unlocked and woke up to find several of their belongings gone.

WILSON COUNTY, Texas – Crews in Wilson County battled a large brush fire Wednesday in northern Wilson County near La Vernia. The fire broke out around 1 p.m. along County Road 539. No burn ban in Bexar County this New Year’s EveNo homes appear to be in immediate danger of the blaze. There was no immediate word what caused the fire.

WILSON COUNTY – A Wilson County woman who last year surrendered more than 70 dogs to a shelter was arrested Saturday on an animal cruelty charge after police found more malnourished animals at her residence. Glori Penshorn was booked into the Wilson County jail on the misdemeanor charge after investigators discovered 11 dogs at her home. The dogs are now at the Wilson County No Kill Animal Shelter, according to Facebook posts. A post from the shelter said the dogs were "severely emaciated, covered in fleas, have mange, hair loss, and hookworms. Seventy-four were removed from her home after the Wilson County Sheriff's Office received complaints from neighborhood residents.
