2 dead in separate traffic accidents

1 driver, 1 pedestrian killed overnight, police say

SAN ANTONIO – Two people were killed, one a driver and one a pedestrian, in separate vehicle accidents overnight, San Antonio police said Monday.

A 27-year-old man who had been fighting with his girlfriend behind the wheel died when his car crashed on a far West Side street.

Police found the couple inside the wreckage around 11 p.m. Sunday on Culebra Road near Potranco Road.

Officers at the scene said they learned that the couple had been arguing and fighting as the man drove down the road. They said he suddenly lost control of his car, hit a curb and veered across the road into a guardrail.

The man and woman both suffered injuries and were taken to a hospital. The man was pronounced dead about 30 minutes later.

As of early Monday morning, the man's name still had not been released. Police were not able to say right away whether the woman might face any charges.

In a separate accident, a pedestrian was hit by a pickup truck around 9:30 p.m. Sunday in the 1300 block of Bandera Road.

Police said the man was not in a crosswalk and may have been intoxicated. The man died before making it to the hospital.

The driver of the pickup truck said the victim was wearing dark clothes and that he did not see the man. He will not be charged.
