Loop 1604 at Bulverde reopens after head-on crash involving wrong-way driver

2 sent to area hospitals in critical condition, police say

SAN ANTONIO – A vehicle accident involving a wrong-way driver sent two people the hospital and closed a North Side highway for several hours overnight, San Antonio police said Thursday.

The accident was reported around 2:30 a.m. on Loop 1604 near Bulverde Road.

According to police, the wrong-way driver was heading eastbound in the westbound lanes of Loop 1604 when they hit another vehicle head-on.

A female passenger inside the vehicle hit was pinned inside and had to be cut out by the fire department. She was transported by AirLife to University Hospital in critical condition.

The wrong-way driver was taken to San Antonio Military Medical Center by EMS, also in critical condition.

Loop 1604 at Bulverde Road was closed for several hours following the crash. It reopened around 6:20 a.m.
