18-wheeler jackknifes on Loop 410 after driver falls asleep at the wheel, SAPD says; lanes reopen

Crash happened around 1:30 a.m. Friday on Loop 410 NB at I-10 East

SAN ANTONIO – An 18-wheeler jackknifed on Loop 410 after its driver fell asleep at the wheel early Friday morning, according to San Antonio police.

The crash happened around 1:30 a.m. at SE Loop 410 NB at I-10 East, not far from East Houston Street.

A preliminary report from SAPD states that the driver admitted to falling asleep, causing the big rig to jackknife. No other vehicles were involved and no one was injured.

The San Antonio Fire Department was called because the trailer was leaking fluid. A portion of the highway had to be closed, but the lanes have since reopened.

SAPD said a bridge was possibly damaged in the crash and the Texas Department of Transportation was notified for an inspection.

The investigation is ongoing.
