SAN ANTONIO – A passenger in a pick-up truck was taken to the hospital Friday morning after the vehicle he was riding in crashed into a traffic pole overnight, San Antonio police said.
The accident was reported around 1:45 a.m. on the access road of Interstate 10 East near West Martin Street, located downtown.
Police said the driver was going at a high rate of speed when the pick-up truck jumped the curb and hit into the traffic pole, ripping the pole completely off its mount and ending up next to a utility pole.
The passenger in the vehicle had to be cut out using the Jaws of Life, police said. The injured man was taken to University Hospital with a broken femur, authorities said.
The driver, a man in his 20s, was tested for a DWI.
Charges may be pending.
