SUV runs off road, wraps around tree

Driver, 57, suffers critical injuries

SAN ANTONIO – A man suffered critical injuries after driving his SUV off a Southeast Side street and wrapping it around a tree.

San Antonio police responded to a 911 call about the crash on SE Military Drive near Goliad Road shortly before 8:30 a.m. Tuesday.

Sgt. Darryl Rooks said officers discovered an SUV had veered to the right, hit a curb then rolled over and slammed into a tree.

Firefighters had to free the 57-year-old driver, who suffered a head injury, Rooks said.

"According to witnesses, there was no other vehicle involved that he was avoiding or anything like that,” Rooks said. “He just suddenly went off the side of the road."

The man was rushed to a hospital by ambulance. Rooks said he was in critical condition.
