City approves changes to VIA bus stops

SAN ANTONIO – San Antonio City Council's approval made way Thursday for planned changes at 11 VIA Metropolitan Transit bus stops.

It is part of VIA’s plan to build 1,000 new bus shelters by the end of 2016.

The enhancements at the 11 stops include improved shelters and seating as well as changes to make the stops more handicap-accessible.

VIA has not set dates for when construction should begin at the selected stops, but the transit company says it will notify riders and nearby property owners when a schedule is set.

In the last 12 months, VIA has installed more than 400 new bus shelters.
