Large hail slams Texas Hill Country; extent of damage unknown

4-inch hail reported in Medina County

SAN ANTONIO – Large hail moved across the Texas Hill County Sunday night, but the extent of the damage is unclear.

Several photos sent into the KSAT newsroom showed baseball-sized hail fell in Medina County.

The small community of Medina appeared to sustain the biggest blow, with 4-inch-diameter hail falling.

Medina Independent School District has delayed all classes until 10:30 a.m. Monday. Students can be dropped off after 7:15 a.m. The cafeteria will be opened and ready to serve breakfast.

The storms also prompted the National Weather Service to issue two tornado warnings, one in Kerr County and another in Kendall County; however, both were radar indicated and not spotted.

Lost Maples State Natural Area, in western Medina County, posted several photos on its Facebook page showing hail about 1.5 inches in diameter.

The storms formed Sunday afternoon along a cold front that was moving west.
