Comal River reopens for water recreation

Tubing conditions perfect, officials say; storms remain in forecast

NEW BRAUNFELS, Texas – The Comal River and the Guadalupe River inside the New Braunfels city limits are open Monday for water recreation, including tubing, police said.

A temporary closure of the river was issued Sunday afternoon due to the threat of heavy rain.

Flows on Monday were reported normal at 350 cubic feet per second for the Comal River and 260 cfs for the Guadalupe River, which are considered perfect tubing conditions, officials said.

Because of the forecast including a chance for thunderstorms Monday afternoon, city officials are monitoring the weather closely and may have issue temporary closures again if heavy rain falls in New Braunfels.

Police officials encourage the use of life vests when participating in any water-related activities.
