PINE HILLS, Fla. – Orange County Fire Rescue and the National Guard rescued residents early Monday morning from 138 homes that were flooded by Hurricane Irma.
A couple dozen victims were trapped in the area of Hope Circle, Ronnie Circle and West Washington Street near Livingston Street in Orlo Vista, officials said.
Authorities said they received a call around 2 a.m. and responded the moment that conditions were safe.
The water level reached several feet in the homes.
"The water was like 4 feet deep," a woman named Latasha said. "(It was) very scary because you go to sleep with just a drizzle and then you have a fishing pond in your front yard, your back yard. Then the next thing you know, you wake up and then you got a swimming pool."
The families, including several children, were taken to Gotha Middle School in Windermere.
Others were rescued in west Orange County, officials said.
No injuries were reported.
Several pets were also rescued.

A dive team, boats and several trucks responded to the call.
