Bandera County added to federal disaster declaration

SAN ANTONIO – Six weeks after significant flooding slammed portions of South Texas, Bandera County has been declared a federal disaster area.

On Friday, the federal government added several Texas counties to the disaster request for public assistance including Bandera, Bastrop, Brown, Caldwell, Eastland, Fayette, Fort Bend, Grimes, Hood, Houston, Jasper, Kleberg, Polk, San Jacinto and Washington counties.

On May 25, more than 10 inches of rain fell over portions of Bandera County, causing significant flooding.

One person in nearby Kendall County was found dead in floodwater the next day.

The declaration covers local and state response costs, shelter and debris removal.
