SAN ANTONIO – Usually in the month of August, San Antonio only receives two inches of rain.
But just today, however, many areas saw three to five inches of radar-indicated rainfall, KSAT meteorologist Sarah Spivey said.

Here's how:
Around 4:30 a.m., storms began developing in the Hill Country thanks to a stalled front in North Texas. These storms moved southeast toward San Antonio.
At the same time, storms formed in Medina County and began to push east toward Bexar County.

Both of these systems clashed in a fury of lightning and heavy rain, slowing each other down, then parking right over Bexar County.
More than three inches of widespread rain fell over the county in seven and a half hours, swelling creeks and small rivers past their flood stages.
Lightning strikes, downed wires and blown transformers contributed to more than 23,000 customers without power before 9 a.m, CPS Energy said.
Around 1,200 customers were still without power at 3:30 p.m., officials said.
Future forecast
Tonight, rain is a lot less likely. But we could see a few passing showers and storms, especially to the east.
Tomorrow there's also a chance for scattered showers and storms, but flash-flooding is not anticipated.
