Corpus Christi HS students volunteer to help clean-up efforts in Rockport

Aransas County ISD schools closed indefinitely

ROCKPORT, Texas – Students from Corpus Christi spent their final days of summer break not relaxing at the beach but helping families across the bay recovering from Hurricane Harvey.

"I never thought I ever had to feel this,” Britney Goodwin said. “It's really hard."

Rockport Fulton High School, where Goodwin is a student athlete, sustained massive damage when the Category 4 hurricane roared ashore last week.

The superintendent announced Wednesday all schools in Aransas County Independent School District campuses will be closed indefinitely.

She and her family know it will be a while before things get back to normal. But help came Thursday from fellow athletes she normally competes against on the field.

Students from Veterans Memorial High School came to help the small beach community as it tries to rebuild after the storm.

Volleyball player Malayna Urive said she and her classmates will welcome any student that comes to their school.

"I'm praying for them, that a blessing comes their way," Urive said.

Goodwin said she does not know what her future holds but is thankful for those who are helping her and her neighbors.

"It's just amazing,” Goodwin said. “I don't know most of them, so to have people I don't know come is a great feeling."
