KSAT weather team takes look back at Hurricane Harvey one year later

Hurricane Harvey ravaged the Texas coast

TEXAS – A year has passed since Hurricane Harvey ravaged the Texas coast. It was an event that set records, including when it comes to rainfall and total cost.

While the devastation will not be forgotten, a resilient Texas population has taken the year to rebuild and learn from the storm.

That resolve also inspired the KSAT weather team, who decided to take a look back at the historic weather event.

We hoped to learn something ourselves. So, all five of our meteorologists set out to examine Harvey’s impact and bring back stories of what has changed for better or worse (yes, there were a few positives).

Justin Horne was in the midst of the storm the night it pounded the Coastal Bend. He retraces his steps in the KSAT Storm Chaser, comparing how places like Rockport looked before, during and now -- a year after the storm.

Mike Osterhage visits Port Aransas where iconic views and business were changed forever. Tourism, however, is back up and running and recovering at a fast pace.

Sarah Spivey ventures into Houston where the story gets personal and discovers that resiliency knows no age.

Kaiti Blake also heads to Houston but explores just what the city has learned from one of the worst floods in its history. Are the reservoirs ready for another epic rainfall event?

Lastly, Adam Caskey digs into the idea that not all of the effects of Hurricane Harvey were bad. The geography of the Texas Coast may have changed forever, but in many ways, nature benefited from what Harvey took away.

You’ll find that and much more during our hourlong “After Harvey: One Year Later” special. It airs Wednesday at 7 p.m. We hope you’ll join us on our journey.
