KSAT Weather Blog: Severe storms pound portions of Texas

The storms hit areas north of Houston and east of Dallas

SAN ANTONIO – [11:15 p.m. UPDATE]

Severe thunderstorm warning issued for Edwards, Kinney, Real and Uvalde counties until 12:15am. Heavy rainfall and frequent lightning along with wind gusts up to 60 mph are possible.

[10:15 p.m. UPDATE]

Storms are now in the western Hill County. The cold front has already passed through Ozona where temperature has fallen into the 40s. Katie is expecting this line to move into Bexar County with the cold front between 2-3 a.m.. Heavy rainfall and gusty winds are likely and there's still a slight chance for a few storms to become severe.

[8:30 p.m. UPDATE]

Storms are starting to fire to the west of San Antonio and are beginning to enter Val Verde County. No watches or warning have been issued for the viewing area at this time.

[6:30 p.m. UPDATE]

An afternoon of savage thunderstorms and possible tornadoes caused scattered damage but injured at least two residents of a badly damaged home, according to the Associated Press.

Chief Deputy Chris Mars of the Franklin County Sheriff's Department said the shattered house where the two were injured north of Winnsboro, about 95 miles northeast of Dallas. There was no immediate word on their condition.

About 40 miles to the south, in Lindale, a storm that eyewitnesses reported looked like at least one tornado damaged about 50 homes. Deputy Smith County Fire Marshal Eric Lowry said six had major damage, but no injuries were reported.

The areas were under tornado warnings at the time of the damage.

[6 p.m. UPDATE]

Severe storms continue to pummel portions of the Lone Star State Saturday.

Multiple tornado warnings were issued in areas north of Houston and east of the DFW metroplex.

Pictures from our sister station KPRC in Houston show trees down and funnel clouds.

These storms are ahead of a strong cold front that could also bring severe weather to South Texas overnight Saturday into Sunday.

A severe thunderstorm watch has been issued for areas to the northwest of San Antonio. The watch remains in effect until midnight.

T-Storm Watch issued mainly NW of San Antonio until 12am tonight. We'll see if this gets expanded later tonight for counties in our area as storms are expected to develop later
