BEXAR COUNTY, Texas – An approval was made Tuesday by Bexar County commissioners of the purchase of more than 51 acres in east Bexar County that will become a substation for the Bexar County Sheriff's Office.

The new substation is one of two new substations being built for BCSO.

A second substation was recently approved in west Bexar County off Loop 1604 and Cagnon Road.

Keith said the new facilities will improve response times and cut down on travel-related expenses.

All BCSO patrol deputies are currently based out of a temporary sybstation in south Bexar County.

Keith said $14 million was included in the 2015 budget for the county's first permanent substations.

The construction is expected to be complete in 18 months.
