SAN ANTONIO – Place For Life Church on San Antonio's Northwest Side held a special service on Sunday night.
The pews were packed for the church’s Prayer to Prevail service. Charles and Rebecca Hudson attended and said the events of the last week defy explanation.
"It's crazy. Just the state of this country. It's hard to wrap your head around it I guess," Charles Hudson said.
"I'm a mother and I'm a wife and I feel bad for the ones that are at home waiting for their daddies to come or their husbands to come home," Rebecca Hudson said.
The church pews were filled with local leaders including Police Chief William McManus, Mayor Ivy Taylor and Bexar County District Attorney Nico LaHood. Many said they were struggling to make sense of last week's violent events.
Justin Porter held his toddler son, London, in his arms as he talked about the conflicting feelings he felt towards the injustices suffered by fellow African-Americans, yet, he said he wanted to try to remain positive.
"Friday was my 36th birthday. I didn't want to celebrate because of all that had happened," Porter said.
Porter said Sunday night's church service was a reminder of why he wants to do whatever it takes to make the world a better place for the next generation and hopes people can better express their frustrations.
"I want the very, very best for my child,” he said. "An eye for an eye, the world goes blind.”
Another attendee, April Hall, said she continues to call on her faith.
"I still say prayer is the answer," Hall said.
