SAN ANTONIO – After a jury deliberated for nearly two days, a judge declared a mistrial in the case of former Bexar County Sheriff's Deputy Anthony Alvarado, 35.
Thursday, Alvarado was found not guilty on theft, misappropriation of funds and fraud charges.

But the panel could not decide on a fourth theft charge.
Just before 9 p.m., the judge declared the mistrial and said it could be 8 weeks before the case was heard again.
Alvarado, a narcotics officer, was accused of keeping money that was supposed to be paid to confidential informants.
He was terminated from his job following an internal investigation.
Alvarado's lawyers claim he was not a dirty cop, as prosecutors alleged, but rather a good officer trying to do his job and was snarled by unclear department policies regarding informant payoffs.
