NEW BRAUNFELS, Texas – A motorcyclist was killed Tuesday morning when he tried to avoid a crash scene on Interstate 35 in New Braunfels, police said.
The victim, 68-year-old Jerry Jackson of Austin, was airlifted to San Antonio Military Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.

New Braunfels police said two southbound lanes in the 900 block of I-35 were closed after an accident at 11:30 a.m. involving a pickup truck and a New Braunfels Fire Department SUV.
A fire truck was dispatched to the scene to block two lanes of traffic when the driver of a Honda CRV swerved at a high rate of speed to avoid the fire truck and stopped on the shoulder, police said.
The motorcyclist swerved to avoid the SUV and rear-ended the Honda, causing the man to be thrown from his motorcycle.
The driver of the SUV was taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
All southbound lanes of I-35 were closed for two hours.
