SAN ANTONIO – The Bexar County Sheriff's Office said Thursday that it extradited the wife of a San Antonio police officer back to San Antonio to face charges of failing to stop and render aid.

"This morning, Bexar County sheriff's deputies went down to Laredo to pick up Diana Lopez. She was wanted on a charge of failure to stop and render aid, which was associated with a crash where her husband was left critically injured," BCSO spokesman James Keith said. "We picked her up this morning. We brought her back to San Antonio, where she will now face the charges that are against her."

An arrest affidavit said several witnesses saw Lopez's SUV driving with its headlights off as it hit Vasquez just after 11 p.m.

The affidavit said witnesses saw a woman approach Vasquez after he was hit, crying, saying he was her husband, "Ernie."

Vasquez cracked his skull and has been in a coma since the incident.

Keith said San Antonio police and the District Attorney's office will now handle the case.
