SAN ANTONIO – The amount of calls the San Antonio Fire Department received to the special fireworks hotline surpassed 1,000 this Fourth of July, according to SAFD officials.
This year’s total was 1,019, exceeding last year’s total of 697.

The total number of calls to the special fireworks hotline have increased over the past four years.
Here’s the breakdown of yearly calls released by SAFD officials on Wednesday morning. The hotline was set up from 7 p.m. to midnight.
- July 4, 2017: 1,019 calls to the special fireworks hotline.
- July 4, 2016: 697 calls to the hotline.
- July 4, 2015: 558 calls to the hotline.
- July 4, 2014: 250 calls to the hotline.
San Antonio fire officials said there were no injuries related to fireworks and no one was treated for burn-related injuries due to fireworks activity.
The hotline was created for San Antonio residents to protect their homes and families by reporting any fireworks use they see in the city.
The use of fireworks in the city of San Antonio is illegal and can result in a misdemeanor charge which can carry a fine of up to $2,000.
