San Antonio ready for chance at $500 million Powerball

SAN ANTONIO – Millions across the country have a crack at the big $500 million Powerball jackpot, with a cash payout of $306 million.

There was a steady stream of people buying tickets all day Wednesday at Molina's on North Alamo Street and Brooklyn Avenue.

Some people picked their own numbers, but most people left it to the computer picks.

Some are making plans for what they would do with all that money, while some are just waiting to see what will happen.

"This is the first time I've played Powerball," said Jaymes Ayes. "I saw a bunch of people at work pulling their money together, (and I was) like, 'What's going on?' Just right now, (the clerk) reminded me and told me the total, and I'm like, 'Wow. Why not spend a couple of dollars?'"

David Tafolla also bought a ticket Wednesday.

"My wife reminded me," Tafolla said. "She said, 'Please, do this. We might have a chance. Who knows.'"

The drawing for the winner will be held Wednesday at 10 p.m. The Texas Lottery announced that if no one wins Wednesday night, Saturday's jackpot will be $675 million.
