Viral video shows SAPD officer teaching children to salsa dance

Initial police call comes as noise complaint

SAN ANTONIO – What started as a late-night noise complaint to a San Antonio home ended up with an SAPD officer teaching children at a backyard event how to salsa dance.

Leslie Sapp, who posted the viral video on Facebook, said a complaint made about loud music at an event for her child's dance club, NXG Dance Crew.

SAPD officers showed up to the home and were welcomed by children of all ages who were in the middle of a dance battle.

So SAPD originally came for a noise complaint at our crew event.... THEN this happened...lol. He even got Jaelie to...

“Instead of shutting it down or even interrupting, the officer asked to play a song and then his song came on, and well, the video speaks for itself,” Sapp said.

In the video, the SAPD officer is seen standing on the dance floor in anticipation of showing the children nearby the appropriate way to dance to salsa music.

The officer spots Sapp’s daughter on the dance floor and takes her by the hand to salsa.

Sapp said the officer left a lasting impact on the people at the event because he took time out of his night shift to engage with children who were there with positive intentions.

“As a parent, especially these days, there is a lot of negativity in the world when it comes to cops, and he broke that stereotype,” Sapp said. “He didn’t have to take his time to do that and could have just (gone) in and shut it down.”

Sapp’s daughter said dancing with the officer made her night and has changed her attitude toward law enforcement.
