Winners are chosen among several categories which include elegant creations, joyful, handcrafted, entryway/window, mailbox, block/cul de sac, creative lighting and religious.

A grand prize winner is chosen among the winners of each category.

On Saturday, the official kick-off ceremony of the Light Up happens from 6 to 9 p.m. at Windcrest City Hall. The event includes a 5k run, a visit from Santa Claus and a ‘winter wonderland.'

For a donation to benefit the city's volunteer fire department, visitors can pick up a map of the winning homes outside Windcrest City Hall.

The city will be awash in light until New Year's Eve.
