FESTUS, Mo. – Sunday, a woman was nicked by a razor blade hidden in the handle of a shopping cart at a Walmart Supercenter.
If there wasn't a picture, you may not believe it.
"It's just horrible someone would do that to hurt someone," Michelle Patterson said.
Patterson was disinfecting her cart at the store when she felt it.
"I jerked my hand away and looked at my finger, and then I looked at the handle," Patterson said. "I couldn't believe there was a razor blade. The first thing I thought of was what if it would have been a child in that seat."
The cut wasn't serious, and once police arrived, Patterson was told it may not have been intentional.
"She said it was probably from a shoplifter. They've been using razor blades to cut the tags off items or open packages," Patterson said.
A Walmart spokesman called the incident disturbing and said workers have since checked all the carts at the location. The store also say they'll continue to regularly check those carts.
Security footage is being reviewed by Walmart and police.
"The first thing I thought was, 'What if it had been a child?' Right behind me there was a woman with a toddler and she took the cart behind me. That would've been her and her little boy," Patterson said.
Patterson had just returned from her doctor when she was interviewed. She said she's afraid the worst is yet to come.
"The doctor mentioned a few things I could have: Tetanus, she said HIV or hepatitis. But let's just hope it was clean," Patterson said.
