The Spurs were swept by Golden State in this year’s Western Conference Finals, and an ESPN commentator believes San Antonio can get the best of the Warriors by acquiring the biggest name in the game.
ESPN’s Max Kellerman said on Thursday’s “First Take” that LeBron James must join the Spurs to have any shot of taking down the Warriors.

Kellerman’s argument is essentially that Kevin Durant made a move to join a super team last summer and won a title so James has to react by joining another superstar in Kawhi Leonard and to be coached by the best in the game, Gregg Popovich.
Kellerman says a move possibly to Los Angeles to play with Clippers would be good for James’ branding and business, but the smart basketball move is heading south to San Antonio.
He adds James’ current Cleveland team, which just lost to the Warriors in the Finals, is not capable of beating Golden State in the future with their current roster.
LeBron James has always said positive things about the Spurs organization and has a deep respect for Popovich and the culture in San Antonio.
But he has never given any public indication of a desire to play with the Spurs.
Kellerman did not bring up specifics when it comes to the salary cap or what financial decisions would need to be made on both ends to make a deal happen, but said James to the Spurs makes the most basketball sense.
