EF-1 tornado victims urged to call 311

SAN ANTONIO – More than 100 homes appear to have been damaged by tornadoes Sunday night in San Antonio, city officials said.

National Weather Service officials said two EF-1 and two EF-0 tornadoes touched down.

One of the tornadoes, with winds clocked at 110 mph, touched down near Putting Green on the city's Northeast Side, officials said. The tornado went on a 1.4-mile path of destruction, officials said.

The other EF-1 tornado hit the Quarry/Linda Drive area, officials said. The path of the twister, which packed winds of 105 mph, was 4.5 miles long, officials said.

Residents in those areas are advised to dial 311 for weather-related concerns, non-emergency service requests, shelter and debris removal information, officials said.

City crews are removing debris from major streets and front yards of residential properties to provide safe access. Residents are invited to add to debris piles along the edge of the roadway within the affected areas through March 3.

The Bitters Brush Recycling Center at 1800 Wurzbach Parkway will be open at no charge to affected residents.

The American Red Cross has set up a temporary shelter at Blessed Sacrament School for storm victims.

KSAT 12 in conjunction with the American Red Cross have set up a phone bank for donations to help storm victims. The number to call is 351-1363 until 7 p.m. Monday.
