SAN ANTONIO – Fiesta revelers are being urged to protect themselves from the hot weather and keep an eye on the skies Saturday night.
The heat index for Friday and Saturday is expected to exceed 90 degrees, which prompted the San Antonio Metropolitan Health District on Thursday to issue a level III heat outlook.

"Particularly with all the Fiesta activities taking place on Friday and Saturday, it is imperative that people drink plenty of water to prevent complications from the heat," said Metro Health assistant director Dr. Vincent Nathan.
Residents are urged to drink plenty of water and protect themselves from the sun to avoid possible health effects, such as sunstroke, heat cramps and heat exhaustion.
Heat stroke is likely with prolonged exposure to the sun. Warning signs include red, hot and moist or dry skin. No sweating, a strong rapid pulse or a slow weak pulse, nausea, confusion or acting strangely are other signs. If a child shows any of these signs, cool the child rapidly with cool water -- not an ice bath -- and call 911.
Children or pets should not be left alone in vehicles.
Storms possible late Saturday night
The other weather factor is the chance of storms late Saturday night into early Sunday morning, when a cold front is scheduled to move into the San Antonio area.

KSAT 12 Weather Authority meteorologist Kaiti Blake said it appears the storms will hold off for the Fiesta Flambeau Parade.
The cold front will bring a line of thunderstorms through the Hill Country closer to 9 or 10 p.m. Saturday, near the end of the parade. Those storms are expected to move southeast through Bexar County closer to midnight, and then move near the coast by early Sunday morning.
Kaiti said the situation could change, so it's best to check back often on the air and online to get the latest conditions.
