ROCKPORT, Texas – One month after Harvey hit the Texas coast, some residents still don’t have a place to stay.
Their houses are now piles of debris, with some people losing everything they own.
Looking through the rubble, you’ll find things like children’s toys and clothes.
One resident, Mary Picazzari, opened up about the devastation that hit her brother-in-law’s home.
“He applied for FEMA, and they're having a lot of challenges right now. We'll just leave it at that. It’s not as easy as I thought the process would be,” Picazzari said.
Picazzari said she feels like her family has to jump through a lot of hoops just to get help.
FEMA officials say the processes are in place to make sure people don’t take advantage of the system.
“The vast number of homes that were impacted, we are asking for patience, and I know that's difficult in these times, especially with the heat and humidity, but we are moving as quickly as possible,” said Rita Egan, who works with FEMA.

For now, Picazzari said all they can do is work together and try to pick up the pieces.
The community is looking out for each other and working to rebuild.
