SAN ANTONIO – A University of Texas at San Antonio starting forward has committed to play basketball for the Big 10′s Minnesota Golden Gophers.
Trey Edmonds, a 6-foot-10-inch 255-pound junior who started 32 games for the Roadrunners last year, made his decision official after entering the transfer portal.

“I’m excited about adding Trey to our program,” Minnesota head coach Ben Johnson said. “Trey’s a first-class young man from a great family. We got to see firsthand the type of player Trey is, his best basketball is ahead of him and that’s exciting. I love his ability to make impactful plays both offensively and defensively. Trey has a passion for development and winning. He’s excited about growing as a player and being part of a successful program.”
Edmonds scored 12 points on 5-11 shooting in 19 minutes on Nov. 10 before fouling out in UTSA’s 102-76 loss against the Golden Gophers last season.
For the year, Edmonds averaged a career-best 7.0 points, 5.8 rebounds in 22 minutes per game. He picked Minnesota over Mississippi and Cincinnati after an official visit over the weekend, the Star Tribune said.
Edmonds has one season of eligibility left to play. He also previously played two seasons at Utah Tech, appearing in 53 games.
He will be the fifth player the Gophers sign from the portal this spring.
“It was a great time in Minnesota,” he told the Star Tribune. “I really loved it there.”
